1. William Bud Post. The Beaver County Times reported in 1988 that Post won Pennsylvania’s $16.2 million jackpot. Post experienced a series unfortunate events. His ex-girlfriend sued him and won a share of his winnings. Post hired a hitman to attempt to inherit some of the cash. Other relatives demanded the money for many months. Post was able to repay $1 million of debt within a month of the win. 2. Janite Lee. The St. Louis Post Dispatch reported that Janite, a South Korean immigrant, worked in a wig store before she won $18million in the Illinois Lottery. Lee was scheduled to receive an average annual payout of $620,000. With this money, she bought a million dollars home for her family. Later, Lee sold her rights in her annual checks for a lump sum. Lee filed for bankruptcy at 60 years old and was left owing $2.5 million. Abraham Shakespeare. Shakespeare won $30,000,000 in a Florida lottery. Three years later, he was killed. According to ABC News Moore shot the 47 year-old twice in the chest. He had been friends with Shakespeare after his lottery win. Moore was found guilty for first-degree murder.
4. Denise Rossi. People reported that Rossi received $1.3 million from the California lottery in 1997 and she filed for divorce. Rossi’s husband learned she won the lottery two decades later and brought her before court. Rossi was sued by her husband for not disclosing the winnings of the divorce. A judge awarded him all the money.
5. Jack Whittaker. TIME claims that Whittaker was already an a millionaire when he won $315million in West Virginia in 2002. He claimed he went bankrupt four years later. Tragedies plagued his life. His granddaughter and his daughter both died soon from drug overdoses. Whittaker was then robbed by $545,000 while he was sitting in his car at an amusement park. Lotto Myths and Legends
